FIFA pays for players: Here’s what the clubs receive during the World Cup

In a few days’ time it starts again: the World Cup. In addition to the supporters of course, the clubs have every reason to wish their players the best of luck because no one wants to deal with an injured professional at the start of the new season later this summer. In order to compensate the clubs for the risk, FIFA has introduced the World Cup Benefits Program. Our analysis shows which leagues and clubs make the most money out of the tournament. Our results can be found in the following tables:

The analysis is based on the fixed amount per player and day, $8,530. Whether or not the player actually makes it onto the pitch is irrelevant. A player’s former clubs may receive up to two thirds of the total sum.
